10 years.
.
Are you where you thought you'd be in life after 10 years? (ignoring the whole pandemic thing... no one could have predicted that)
.
For me, absolutely not. I am not at all where I expected to be.
.
I completely expected to have a career I was really dialed in, roots in a beautiful place, probably married, and potentially even kids.
.
19-year-old Liz would have been shocked by the turn of events, but honestly, I think she would have been pretty thrilled when she heard how I took society's classic life boxes and chucked them out the window.
.
When we're growing up and transitioning into adults, it's easy to check the boxes, follow the steps we're seen our parents follow, and blindly think we're "progressing as people" because we're progressing in a way that makes sense to the masses...
.
How many times have I been asked about "romantic interests" in regards to marriage? Or endured the constant questioning about "but, where are you thinking about settling down?!"
.
I've chosen a non-traditional life. At least a non-traditional life by societal and cultural standards.
.
And even though this life has its challenges too, I'm pretty excited about this odd little life that's come together.
.
So tell me, where did you think you were going to be at this age? Did you meet your own expectations or did you throw your own book out the window?
