10.27.23 // Larch Season
Larch Season.
.
I had heard about larches before but this year was the first time I experienced them firsthand...
.
Larch trees reside in the high alpine and are a fascinating combination of evergreens and deciduous trees. They present as evergreen for half the year Then as temperatures drop in the fall their needles change from green to gold, and eventually they shed them altogether.
.
But what no one tells you about larches is that they are also incredibly soft when they are in the transition of losing their needles.
.
I knew I was going to be blown away by the bright golden hue of the larches, but the velvety softness is what led to me falling in love with them.
.
It's not just that they are soft, but they are soft during their biggest transition. Amid change, instead of becoming rigid like leaves falling off oak trees, they stay soft.
.
And that is something to emulate. Nature has a way of showing us beautiful ways of being and the larches are just another great example of this.
.
Larches are a reminder that we can be soft during even our biggest transitions and that we can be bright in the face of the impending challenge of a winter season.
