7.1.20 // Not everyone is going to like you

Not everyone is going to like "you".
.
"You" could mean your looks, your attitude, your job, your style, your friends, your outlook, your choices, your needs, your dislikes, your feelings.
.
I know, it's heartbreaking news.
.
It hurts me too.
.
Of course, I want everyone to like me. I want to avoid conflict and fill the world with positivity and lightness.
.
But guys, that is just not how human interaction works, and by god, I need to remind myself of that daily. If anything, people-pleasing is actually an inherently selfish act. I selfishly want to avoid negative feelings from others so I people please at all costs.
.
But at what cost am I willing to sacrifice who I am, how I show up, what I believe, or what I look like?
.
"People-pleasing" line is a dangerous line to cross. But a lot comes down to intentions, I consistently have to ask myself why I am doing something? Am I doing X or Y because I want to help someone or it helps me grow? Or am I doing X or Y because I actually don't want to rock the boat, stir up conflict, or potentially harm someone's view of who I am?
.
But in the end, someone's view and thoughts of you is their view. It does not define you. It doesn't define me, so release the feeling of worry and just concentrate on those intentions. Even if it starts small.
