5.29.20 // Selfies (Part 2)

I’ve had Instagram since 2013 (part 2).
.
And since those early days, I’ve asked myself, "how many photos should feature me versus one of the beautiful places I've had the privilege of spending time in? Is there a limit on how many selfies are too many selfies? Will I be sending the wrong message if I chose to post myself?
.
In January 2020, @jennakutcher wrote about an experiment she did a few years back. She challenged herself to show her face on Instagram every single day for one month to see what happened...
.
She went on to comment, "Whoa. Narcissism at its finest, amiright? The truth was, I was tracking trends on the app as an educator and I noticed that photos with faces outperformed other posts."
.
Her thesis was the people care about you, not about what you're selling, but they care about you as a human and want to connect with you.
.
The learning I took away from Jenna's experiment is that selfies offer a deeper connection to you as they are both vulnerable and the closest thing to you in person.
.
Jenna went on to explain that she has kept up with her experiment and how that one month changed the way she used the app to connect with her followers.
.
What do you guys think? Do selfies offer a more personalized and transparent look into someone's life?
