8.24.20 // trail trend?

I've noticed an interesting trend on trails lately...
.
Without explanation, this year is notably different than past summers: quieter trails, fewer permits being handed out, and most hikers wearing some form of a mask.
.
But, with all of these changes, the odd trend I've experienced when I've been on the trail is the general increase in aggression, a shift in attitude, and the negative energy when hikers encounter another human.
.
Like so many others, the woods is my retreat. It's my sanity in a world moving sometimes too fast or sometimes too slow (these social-distance filled days). But, they aren't my woods.
.
I understand that we need to social distance, that we need space to stop the spread, but I know that we will encounter other humans when we leave our homes and the best we can do is be prepared.
.
If both parties are prepared, with proper masks and etiquette, the trails should still be a magical place.
.
Please don't use your mask on the trail as a means to display aggression. That makes you no better than the trolls who spread negativity on the internet hiding behind screens. We're better than this. We all are.
.
Let's find beauty in this crazy world, acknowledge each other as we both search for more in Mother Nature's bounty.
.
In a time when we need connection more than ever, nature more than ever, and love more than ever. Let's help each other achieve this in a safe and beautiful way.
.
Trails are meant to be magical, let's keep them that way.
