10.6.23 // Travel Reflections

Gone are the days of seeing as much as I can as fast as I can.
.
Gone are the days of chaotic itineraries and impulsive last-minute changes to plans.
.
Don’t get me wrong, I still love a go-with-the-flow moment or two, but I love how as I’ve gotten older the pace of travel has changed. My priorities have become experiencing more which often, for me, means seeing less.
.
To experience is depth. It is feeling. It is sinking into a place long enough to feel that place’s intricacies. When I was rushing to see more, I felt as though I could only taste a bite of these places when often I needed a whole meal, maybe even more to truly get the full flavor and complexities of this new horizon.
.
My first international trip was to Thailand. I traveled with my best friend @nick_kleiner and by god, we were all over the place for a 10-day itinerary. We plotted, planned, and still joke that we may have spent more time on transportation than we did in the cities we were visiting. I had bites of Thailand but I left not knowing her full flavor, not even for one area.
.
Now, flavor and depth are the guiding forces of my travel. Long days filled with walking to nowhere, trying local cuisine (or not because even no local cuisine is technically still “local” and existing there for a reason), and seeking nature and soft, quiet moments have been my priority.
