2.18.21 // when you fall in love
Life doesn’t magically get easier when you fall in love.
.
The fairytales we were told as children were fables enforcing the false narrative of perfection.
.
But real life, real life is so much better.
.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a die-hard hopeless romantic but over the years I’ve had to change.
.
I’ve had to change my romanticizing of storybook love to romanticizing real-life love, the type of love that is often left out of storybooks because it’s complicated and hard, and sometimes breaks your heart into a million pieces.
.
And while storybook love will give you butterflies in your stomach, real-life love will give you wings and while you’ll soar to the highest of highs, you’ll also soar to the lowest of lows, but you’ll still have your wings.
.
Pieces of your life won’t fall into place when you find love, who you are won’t all of a sudden be clear, and the annoyances of life will still be there to inconvenience you.
.
In the storybook love that all evaporates, in real life, all of those things still very much exist but with the beauty of a supporting love. The small things won’t bother you as much because you’ll be guided by priorities, you’ll be supported to be your true self and to keep self-discovering together and apart, and life pieces will be hellaciously hard to figure out, but you won’t be doing it alone...
.
Here’s to real-life love and the moments that give us wrinkles and grey hair and compassion and stories and lessons and life.
