12.29.21 // BOLD

BOLD.
.
Starting in 2015, @nick_kleiner and I have picked a "word of the year" towards the end of each December.
.
It started on a rare snowy morning at a Starbucks near Dupont Circle when we both lived in Washington, D.C.. Our words have acted like lighthouses in the dark of the unknown year to come.
.
We decided to choose words because we didn't want rigid goals, we didn't want numbers, and we didn't want to create unhealthy expectations in the coming months.
.
The word could be anything.
.
It could be inspirational, grounding, it could be a noun, a verb, or an adjective. There are no limits...
.
2016 was the year of courage.
2017 there wasn't a word.
2018 was the year of truth.
2019 was the year of growth.
2020 was the year of freedom.
2021 was the year of trust.
.
And 2022?
.
2022 is the year of BOLD.
.
This year I wanted, no I needed, a word that leaves me feeling fearless, powerful, and proud to take up space, speak my mind, and be my true self...
.
For 2022, I needed a word that fuels me. A word that empowers me. A word that makes me feel alive and gets my blood pumping because life is so beautiful and deserves to be colorful and BOLD.
.
So for the next year, BOLD will be my north star.
.
I'll shine in the dark, unabashed, shinning even when the clouds roll in, unafraid to be a light in the dark.
