5.11.21 // driving the Amalfi Coast
Driving the Amalfi Coast was one of the most invigorating and terrifying experiences I've had in recent years.
.
The roads were thin and heavily lined with cars parked on either side.
.
The roads looped and curved along the sides of the cliffs, asphalt, concrete, and stone keeping me suspended above the turquoise blue Mediterranean waters.
.
My mind was held present by the unwritten rules of Italian driving- rolling through stop signs, passing in no-passing zones, and squeezing cars in the most unlikely narrow alleys.
.
My body was rigid with adrenaline. Often I would catch myself holding my breath or sucking in my stomach when we would go through a tight spot, becoming one with the car.
.
While I typically barrel down the road in a 4Runner, the rental car clung to the corners with effortless ease. So while we became one, her handle of the roads didn't match the mental sharpness of my mind.
.
And while my serotonin levels spiked in stress, the engine purred with the thrill of the ride.
.
A ride not soon to be forgotten, but hopefully not to be done again for a while...
