2.25.22 // Impact of Change

“When you change yourself, you're changing the world, even if you don't see the immediate impact.”
.
Someone told me this the other day, and it sent shivers down my spine.
.
I often strive to see results. I think most of us do- we want to see the impact of our jobs, our love, our friendships. We want the validation of SEEING how we touch the world.
.
But needing that visual validation creates an expectation. And as my therapist says, expectations are premeditated disappointments. It also changes our motivation, only doing things that we can see results from rather than doing things because we like them, we feel called to do them, or because we've been asked to.
.
Even if we don't immediately see the external impact of the ways we change, by changing ourselves, we fundamentally change our own world and create an endless opportunity for other's worlds to change too.
