1.1.21 // trust
Trust.
.
Since 2015 Nick Kleiner and I take hours together each December to daydream a guiding word for the coming year. We've had to adapt our hangouts over the years, from our trusted DC coffee shop to connecting from internet cafes around the world, to COVID-friendly Zoom calls.
.
In those coffee shop days and every year since then, we've spent countless hours, texting and thinking through our one words.
.
We don't set strong or rigid goals, we don't talk numbers or needs, we simply pick a word we want to channel for the year.
.
It could be inspirational, it could be grounding, it could be a noun, a verb, or an adjective. There were and are no limits.
.
2016 was the year of courage.
2017 I failed to pick a word, my year followed in that chaos.
2018 was the year of truth.
2019 was the year of growth.
2020 was the year of freedom.
.
And 2021?
.
2021 is the year of trust.
.
Trust for myself, trust in others, trust in the universe, and for what might come my way.
.
For 2021 I wanted a word that holds me. A word that keeps me present. A word that challenges me.
.
Truth will be my north star for the next year.
.
And while I wish it is always shining bright and in my view, I know there will be cloudy days. However, I know it'll be there a reminder of its existence and a reminder to trust.
