3.30.21 // the trevi
Almost exactly two years ago, I stood at the Trevi fountain and threw a couple of coins over my right shoulder with my mom.
.
According to legend, tossing one coin into the Trevi Fountain means you'll return to The Eternal City (Rome), tossing two coins means you'll return and fall in love, and tossing three coins means you'll return, find love, and marry.
.
Did I want to return to Rome as I tossed my coins into the bright blue waters? No, that wasn't the goal of my tossing the coin. Honestly, it wasn't something that I had really thought about, rather, I wanted to participate in the tradition with my mom and test out the fable that played to my hopeless romantic side.
.
Well...
.
Two years almost exactly, I am back in Rome, running by the fountain who perhaps had a small hand in my returning.
.
The Trevi fountain is a hot spot for tourists in Rome, but it's undeniable that it is one of the most beautiful water features here in the city.
.
She is at the convergence of three streets in one of the most unassuming locations. One minute you're strolling along another beautiful narrow warm-hued street in Italy and the next you're looking at the most ornate and grand fountains.
.
Her sounds reverberate off the cobblestone, stucco, and wood surrounding the area, and her bright blue waters are almost glowing with an invitation to sit and let time disappear.
.
While I'm still not convinced I'm meant to be back in Rome, I know that whenever I stumble across the Trevi (which is harder than you think with Rome's looping roads) that I'm meant to spend more time with her, to watch her grace the earth with a truly unearthly beauty.
